Amarii Davu, NIMA Award (Best Hip Hop Solo Artist Male) and HHV Award (Artist on the Rise) nominee from Nashville, recently released a new single titled “The Cost of Melanin“. The song features a message delivered through powerful lyrics and the laid back production by Canis Major. This track is off the forthcoming project “Khepri” that is due Fall 2015.
I wrote the song because I’m disgusted with the injustices that happen day in and day out in regards to law enforcement and the minorities in America. I’ve personally been victim to police officers stopping me for racist reasons, just to mess with me. I felt that it was my duty as an Artist to comment on the happenings in my world and use Hip Hop to bring some light to it all.
