Tijuana, Mexico based singer/songwriter Labán, which means white in Hebrew, has delivered a smooth, jazz rock single with hints of R&B and soul. The single is Acércate and it is from his album Todos Somos Dueños de Aquí.
Starting his journey into music at the age of 3, Labán began with the violin, then learned piano. By the time he was going to college, he had started writing for his first album.
His Todos Somos Dueños de Aquí album features collaborations with musicians in Nashville, Austin and Medellín, Colombia. The smooth sounds on this latest single, Acércate, received some sweet saxophone vibes from Denver based musician Jeff Miguel.
The concept that drives the songs on Todos Somos Dueños de Aquí is the principle of respect for human life. Aligning each song with a vital part of the human body, Labán gives each song a specific intent which directly relates to the function of said vital parts.
Acércate, being the smooth, souful jam it is, focuses on love and relationships as they play out in our human existence. Jeff Miguel’s saxophone really sets the mood for this laid back, reflective and easy listening experience. Although the lyrics are in Spanish, the music and the mood capture the emotions ensuring listeners feel every phrase no matter their level of familiarity with the language.
Other songs included on Todos Somos Dueños de Aquí include: Dueños de Aquí, Quién da Más, Para Ti and Acércate. Respectively, each song touches on topics such as corruption, impunity, extremes of economic inequality as well as violence, feelings of frustration and, of course, as Acércate shows us, love and relationships.
