Kings of the Brushwood Thicket sounds like an ensemble of what might be some rowdy pipers from the land of yonder but this simplistic, soulful, enchanting collage of frequencies emanates from the creative spirit of one Bruce Erik Brauer.
You’ve probably heard Bruce’s music before; even if you don’t realize it yet.
[Tweet “Stripping it down to it’s essence, @KingsoftheBT is 5 songs of pure acoustic folkericana.”]
Remember that Atlantic Records-backed NYC rock band that released Test Your Own Eyes in 1993, then toured extensively opening for Sheryl Crow, The Stone Temple Pilots and The Mighty Mighty Boss Stones; they were also referred to as the first “tool shed band” and Washington Post compared them to Brit Invastion sensations like The Who…?
That band is known as Dog Society and even though it took them 19 years to follow up with their next album, this group of musicians created something epic that forever lives on in the minds of music lovers from the early ’90s.
So what is Bruce doing now?
Keeping it simple.
Stripping everything down to it’s essence, Kings of the Brushwood Thicket is 5 songs of pure acoustic folkericana.
Combining everything I love about the “classic” era of music, this EP manages to capture the spirit of greats ranging from James Taylor to Zeppelin to The Beatles and many a singer-songwriter that have bared their soul on the strings of beat up acoustic guitars all over this planet.
“A Toast To Friends” (with awesome single artwork, see above) is a celebration of all the people that have passed through and still remain in Bruce’s life. An enchanting tune that lifts the spirit and prepares us for the remainder of the EP.
Each song stands on it’s own showcasing Bruce’s ability to craft songs like a true master without sounding repetitive or formulaic. I’ve already listened to this record twice.
Kings of the Brushwood Thicket is a man and his guitar doing what he knows how to do best. Play and sing with style.
