Florida based blues/roots rock musician Kid Conch has an interesting approach to generating revenue by treating each song like a painting being pushed into a market of art collectors.
What Kid Conch refers to as a nano-label concept, he finds investors for his intellectual property by offering them a percentage of all money generated from the song.
This creates a system where Kid is able to back each release with a budget in order to give him more time to pitch it to radio stations, licensing opportunities, and more.
I spend an hour or more a day pitching recordings to music libraries, music supervisors for film and TV, publishing companies, etc., to generate income from the songs. For master coownership I charge the backer what it costs me to record the song. I’ve been spending about $750 a song on production. Licensing fees range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars for a big movie or ad campaign. So, unlike crowdfunding offers, there is a potential financial payoff for my backers.”
His songs “St. Tropez” and “Wave Surfer” are currently his most popular tunes based on streams.
