Coming back toward the harbor after a long week on stormy seas, Key West Chris‘ new album, Trimaran, is exactly what I needed to help decompress, shed the stress, and get a little taste of a more tropical paradise in my little corner of NorCal.
I always make it a point to pass shine and credit to the talented musicians behind a project, especially when their musicianship is top shelf. Led by Key West Chris Rehm on guitars and vocals, the Trimaran album also features the talents of Dani Hoy (vocals), Claire Finley (bass), Alan Jax Bowers (Latin/hand percussion), Ericson Holt (keyboards), Ed Alstrom (Hammond B3), Bobby DeVito (guitar), and last but never ever least, Juliana MacDowell (vocals).
With my affinity for Hammond B3s and funky vibes, King Tide is definitely a noteworthy jam included on this project. With catchy guitar riffage, that smooth organ, some sweet sounding lead guitar and an uplifting vibe, this is a jam I’m going to be repeating whenever I need to bust a move or boost my mood. Make sure you listen through until that Hammond solo kicks off…followed by an equally sweet guitar solo.
Jumping back to the beginning of the Trimaran EP, Key West Chris kicks things off with the soothing, magically melodic, acoustic-guitar driven Cayo Hueso Rain. If you sit back, take a deep breath, close your eyes and just absorb the music, you’ll soon be able to feel the rain and that Key West atmosphere. Sit back and breathe it in, imagine the wind and the sounds, and just let the song transport you.
The remaining track on the EP, Sunset Sail, takes us on the water to witness a beautiful evening as the sun slowly sets beyond the horizon. A very relaxing and soothing jam, Sunset Sail features lovely sounding guitars as well as wonderful harmonies. As the lyrics express, there’s not place I’d rather be than by the sea. You can definitely sing that again!
