Amityville, Long Island Hip Hop artist KEez unleashes a collection of passionate, confident flows and Golden Era infused production on his latest album, Come Hell Or High Water.
With every great work of art comes an interesting story. Allow me to set up KEez‘s new album by telling you about how he got to this point.
As a youngster, KEez was no stranger to writing stories and poems. As he grew older, he was drawn to music, specifically Hip Hop. Influenced by lyrical rappers such as 2Pac, Nas and Scarface, KEez set out to make timeless music while constantly growing and improving to be the best artist and musician he could possibly be.
Developing his style and honing his craft during the days of analog recorders, KEez comes from the era of creating beats on Casio keyboards, recording on tape recorders and free styling in the lunch room in between classes. Practicing his MC skills in battles and cyphers, KEez has become the talented artist he is through dedication, hard work and persistence.
Independently releasing his debut album, 8th of a Ke, during his first year of college, KEez continued building momentum with a self-recorded mixtape titled Jackin 4 Beats and his second studio album Re-Up. These releases led to performances across New York, New Jersey and Virginia over the following years. KEez was named the Cop Shop Champion in May of 2009. Fast forward through more album releases and more touring, 2016 hit KEez with unexpected news regarding his health.
Facing a life threatening case of Sarcoidosis which led him through a series of hospital visits and experimental treatments, KEez – exhausted and weak – had no intentions of letting this stop him from making more music. With his future uncertain, KEez poured his all into the new album as if it might be his last. On top of an album, he also authored two books which have not hit shelves or eBooks yet.
Noted as his most personal work to date, Come Hell or High Water is a collection of 14 songs which were penned during this sprint of creative output. With a seasoned, confident flow and personal, intelligent lyrics, KEez delivers song after song of Hip Hop goodness which will most definitely appeal to true school, Golden Era Hip Hop aficionados.
Having listened to the album multiple albums, Come Hell or High Water is a great record to put on in the background as you work, clean house, exercise, drive or whatever you’re doing while you listen to music. With beats ranging in style from grimy ’90s East Coast to New Orleans bounce to Texas grit to West Coast influenced synth leads on to mellow, reflective, heartfelt, melodic jams; this album is a journey through KEez’s life as he faced the thought of not living quite as long as once thought.
You can hear him pouring it all out through every lyric and every hook.
My favorite tracks include: Alive, Cry, Hater, Sing and Pink Lemonade.
