We’re a little late to this party but Parisian singer/songwriter Juliette Jules released her new EP (as a free download) for her 16th birthday (circa May 23rd).
At 13 years of age, Juliette bought her first guitar after selling one of her paintings. Searching for a musical outlet, she became well acquainted with her new Fender acoustic.
This was not the beginning of her journey through music. At age 8, she was training in classical piano. By 14, she was studying opera voice. Now, at 16, she is showcasing a maturity in vocal styling and songwriting which far surpasses her youth.
Black Crow, the new EP, is equally influenced by her foundation in music and her extensive studies in the world of literature.
But that’s not all, Juliette is also heavily influenced by the underground sounds of the original punk movement. Even though she missed this era by 20 years, she discovered punk via the Internet.
“I have always felt the pull of the underground sounds, the purity of the lyrics & the emotion of the songs. I can imagine living in that era and would have loved to experience these bands when they were first creating the punk scene in the clubs of London and New York” says Jules.
A young woman with an old soul, Juliette Jules delivers an incredible collection of 5 songs that are as much a tribute to the 60s and 70s as it is a statement on her ability to carry on that spirit in the year 2014.
Black Crow stands tall above the herd. Keep your eyes on this budding singer/songwriter.
