The dynamic duo and master electronic music craftsmen known as Jules Verne Theory has returned with an intriguing, enticing, electro-pop single titled Never Get Stuck In A Lift (With Someone You Love).
We’ve featured Jules Verne Theory multiple times before so there’s no reason for me to dive deep into the impressive portfolio and musical history of the group’s members, Richard Slee and Arron Clague. Find our previous features here and here (opens in new tab).
This atmospheric, symphonic, piano driven single explores the nuances and consequences of getting stuck in a lift with someone you love. Claustrophobia mixed with intense emotion and shared history can be a brutal combination and Jules Verne Theory’s sonic and lyrical exploration of this dilemma is pondered through beautiful piano melodies, layers of atmospheric strings and hard hitting, lo-fi drums.
The visual treatment further pulls us into the moment and the song by showing a couple stuck in a lift from the perspective of a security camera. As restlessness and impatience ensue, the couple is left in close quarters for an uncertain amount of time which leads to a roller coaster ride of emotion, desire and the intricacies of love and relationships.
