Be prepared for an emotional ride through the elegant arrangements of pianist and composer Juan Sánchez on his new album, Rebirth.
Beginning his journey into the world of piano at the young age of 14, Juan Sánchez began nurturing a deep seated passion for music creation. By the time the 80s and 90s came, he was playing keyboards in various bands to feed his passion’s insatiable hunger.
Sometime around the mid-90s, Juan made his way to London where he furthered his studies of music and also technology. By 1999, he was making ambient electronic music. He also creates music for sound libraries that are utilized by music producers all over the planet.
As the work that came his way fed that never ending hunger to make music, something was still missing. Juan lacked the fulfillment he had been longing for. In his words,
I have always felt very grateful to have found my job as an ambient music composer and sound designer, but in my heart, I did not feel completely fulfilled with this role. I had always dreamed about becoming a professional pianist and composer, but I didn’t have the confidence to pursue this dream, as I felt that this was only for very talented musicians and I did not see myself in that way. I thought that, if I were to create music, nobody would want to listen to it – or worse, that they would listen to it and wonder why I had bothered to create music in the first place.
Juan discussing his journey as a pianist and composer.
Well, ladies and gentle-persons I am here, with full confidence, to share with you that Juan Sánchez overcame that anxiety and fear. Attributing his shift to the discovery of ambient artists like Max Richter and Ludovico Einadui, Juan fell in love with the way these composers mixed piano-driven arrangements with electronic sounds. A fire sparked. He began traveling down the rabbit hole of ambient artists and found Nils Frahm and Olafur Arnalds as well as other neoclassical composers that grabbed his attention.
Releasing his first piece in March 2019, Rebirth shocked Juan when the single was well received among the Spotify community. He received great feedback, positive reviews, playlist adds and, the icing on the cake for any musician, requests to release more!
Juan Sánchez obliged and now we have his first album, Rebirth. Why use the name of his first single? Juan explains (while also providing more insight into how this process changed him as a person),
Over the course of the last two years, I have started to learn how to reprogram my brain by taking personal development courses. My goal is to completely overcome my self-limiting beliefs that were hindering my growth and personal development. Now that I am starting to see the fruits of my success and change the way I think, I feel that, in some way, I am becoming a new person – I have been reborn…
Juan tells us why he named his album Rebirth.
If you need to relax, boost your mood, lift your spirits or simply improve your mental well being, Rebirth is the perfect instrumental, piano-driven, classically infused, New Age leaning album to get the mission accomplished.
