On the search for an enlightening journey through sound? I think the reggae infused funky blues of Jon Petronzio aka Road Man is exactly what you are looking for.
This album is seven very powerful years of my life documented in song,” Jon says. “I’m not the same man I was when I started this project. I had to get out of the way and let these messages come out honestly and in their own time, and it’s changed me. I’ve seen how magical life can be, how much hope there is out there, and now I want Road Man to provide light at the end of the tunnel for others.”
Referring to his debut album as “Light At The Speed of Life”, Road Man is a seven year journey through discovery, exploration, experimentation, and creative awakening.
What you would consider a natural born musician, Jonathan was earning money playing ragtime piano in an ice cream parlor by age 12. After earning his BA in Music from Ithaca College of Music, he formed the funk band Revision which recorded 6 albums and averaged 150 gigs per year.
Jon has also toured extensively throughout the country with John Brown’s Body opening for acts such as Sublime, Groundation, SOJA, Easy All-Stars and Galactic (to name a few).
Petronzio’s seven year journey to finishing Road Man occurred in three phases. Starting with a spirit of experimentation and discovery, Jon learned his away around recording and production software through the recording of 250 demo ideas which led him to phase 2 where he whittled down those 250 ideas into 15 songs.
With an album of music without lyrics, Jonathan spent the Ithaca winter tapping into his subconscious, exploring his spiritual side, and playing William Burroughs “cut-up exercises” with a set of magnetic poetry words and phrases.
So what about the album?
Road Man is Bob Marley collaborating with Michael Franti backed by Sublime. After the recording is finsihed, The Black Seeds and Jamiroquai make their way into the studio to add some sugar and spice…and everything is nice.
This music lifts you up, makes you move, gets you in the groove, and provides the perfect frequencies for working, cooking, driving, or even kicking back at the end of the day before you doze off.
I’ve had the album on repeat. I think you know where I stand.
