Wichita, Kansas based alternative rock songwriter JJ McGuigan has joined forces with Garret Crow for their single Letters.
We recently interviewed JJ about his influences, his new project and more. Be sure to check out that feature.
JJ is a VH1 “Save The Music” Songwriting Contest finalist, an advocate for mental health awareness, and has studied at Newman and Full Sail Universities building his network and further perfecting his craft.
As far as his activism for mental health awareness, JJ shares (in reference to his own experiences with OCD and Depression),
I have been on a journey of self discovery and learning ever since I was diagnosed at age 16,” says McGuigan. “I am constantly trying to find new ways of, not only helping myself to heal each day, but trying to see if I can help someone else, as well. Music plays a big part in doing both, I believe. I hope you find my music to be insightful and emotionally striking.”
Letters is a mellow, soothing, heartfelt song that sits a littler closer to the pop side of the rock spectrum but definitely displays JJ’s ability to finely craft instrumentation into an appealing, engaging sound-bed providing a solid foundation for Garrett’s vocals.
Having been a drummer since 13 and a guitar strumming songwriter since age 20, JJ will not be slowing down any time soon.
His new album Dissociative is now available (Apple Music). (JJ talks about the album in our interview.)
