Boston based singer/songwriter Jessye DeSilva has delivered a delightful listening experience with the new album Hoarfrost and Crocus Shoots.
Jessye creates from a rather unique perspective but one that is beginning to blossom more and more each day. Identifying as a non-binary queer person who grew up surrounded by church-going conservatives, Jessye is no stranger to feelings of isolation, loneliness and the myriad of emotions that arise in these circumstances.
With a piano-driven, alt-rockin’, country-leanin’, folk-infused sonic foundation, Jessye consistently delivers well crafted songs that are sincere, authentic and, most importantly, guaranteed to hold your attention. Featuring highly enjoyable, memorable melodies, emotive and passionate vocal performances, grabbing rhythmic grooves and a level of musicality that is above average, the pristine production quality becomes the delicious icing on this sonic layer cake.
With themes of relationships, alienation, chosen versus biological family and personal healing showing themselves throughout Jessye’s songwriting, it’s safe to say these songs can and will resonate with….pretty much anyone who is in touch with their feelings.
I’m not really able to choose a favorite song out of the eight included on the project. Clocking in at approximately the 30-40 minute range, I encourage you to listen to the album in its entirety. You will not be disappointed.
