New York City based singer/songwriter Jay Elle has returned with a new album, Ease Up, which is packed with well crafted, uplifting, infectious songs founded in acoustic pop but sprinkled with hints of country and Americana.
Regardless of how you label the style, there is no denying Jay’s ability to craft an easily memorable song with strong melodies, body moving rhythms, and an uplifting energy that is guaranteed to boost your mood.
I can confess that each time I’ve listened through Ease Up, things become a little brighter, a little lighter, and all the other crap in life seems to matter a little less. Jay has this ability to capture and explore life’s nuances and intricacies in the form of catchy, easy to absorb, pop jams.
This is not Jay’s first time gracing these pages. It was back in 2016 when I first discovered his music and conducted an interview to discuss his Twelve On Sunday release. With that context, it’s always a pleasure to see the evolution of a songwriter and musician with each new release.
Jay Elle is no exception to this. The songs on Ease Up definitely put on display the substantial progress Jay has made since I first listened those few years ago.
Ease Up was self-produced by Jay while the project was mixed and mastered by Brent Kolatalo, who has worked with well known acts like Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and Lorde. Touching on the positive charge of the album and its themes, Jay states,
I want to share optimistic and positive messages that focus on looking forward and moving on from imperfect situations. I’m optimistic about the future and I want to share that viewpoint… I think there’s a need for simple, well-crafted messages that give people a positive outlook on life.”
