Upstate New York based rockers The Jason Gisser Band have delivered a potent, gritty, soul infused 2-track EP titled The River.
Formed in 2015, the band consists of Jason Gisser (lead vox, acoustic guitar), Tom Forst (lead guitar), Big Thurrsty (drums) and Andrew Fennell (bass). After recording their first album In The Garden of Crows, the band went on to perform at well respected venues including The Chance Theatre, The Paramount Theatre, Mexicali Live, Daryl’s House, The Falcon and The Town Crier as well as opening for acts with well known names like Grand Funk Railroad, Three Dog Night, Hoobastank and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real.
Each member is a music veteran in their own right having all worked and played in various projects. The story of how they formed The Jason Gisser Band is worth paraphrasing.
Jason was booked for a show at The Chance Theater after a local man saw him performing at a business fair in a small town strip mall. Jason quickly realized he was performing between two metal bands and rushed to get a band together for the event.
Having known Big Thurrsty and Andrew for quite some time, they said yes and joined Jason for the show. Percussionist Jeff Haynes (Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock) also agreed to join the line-up for the evening. After the show, the guys were kicking back in conversation and decided there was a musical chemistry worth pursuing as a full time band. Tom Forst soon joined the roster as lead guitarist and now we’re here jamming their latest 2-track EP The River as the band puts the finishing touches on their second studio album.
The two tracks featured on this EP include The River and Monster. Each very strong songs which display the band’s versatility and ability to be as gritty and as evil as they are soulful and uplifting.
