You know what’s been missing from country music for a while?
The truth…and some soul.
In classic country fashion, Chris Leigh has delivered a solid album full of honky tonk hits with Broken Hearted Friends.
Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, Chris took a trip down I-65 to Nashville to work with some of the best in the biz.
Broken Hearted Friends is an album of “redemption, reinvention, and reclamation”.
In the spirit of true greats such as Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Cash, Hank, and Yoakum; Leigh puts his heart out on his sleeve to create one of the most honest records I have played from the country genre in a while.
Did I mention I’m not a fan of country music? Well, unless it sounds like this.
“To understand and appreciate life, you have to go through hardships,” Leigh says. “I write what I’ve lived and what speaks to my soul.”
Tracked in Nashville, Leigh worked alongside Jim “Moose” Brown (producer and Grammy winning songwriter) and a crew of Nashville’s finest studio musicians. The record was mixed by Benny Faccone and mastered by Gavin Lurssen.
Faccone is a 14 time Grammy winner and Gavin (also a Grammy winner) has worked with Allison Krauss, Loretta Lynn, as well as movies Walk The Line and O Brother Where Art Thou.
Like I said earlier, this album is full of hits. “Ramblin Man”, “Whiskey River”, “Who’s That”….I am not going to name them all but make sure you watch the video for “If You Make It To Heaven”.
No matter what you call it, Broken Hearted Friends is authentic. Country music needs more of that.
