In this interview spotlight, I chat with Zoibaf about his music, challenges, motivations and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
Hello! My name is Zoibaf and I come from Italy!
I am an electronic music producer, I have worked on productions of various genres but the ones I prefer are always Progressive House productions!
There are also other genres that I like Future Bass and Future House, my new song will be a sort of Tropical / Chill House.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
My passion for music started when I was very small with genres like rock and rap.
Later my tastes changed and so I got closer to the world of electronic music and I started wanting to make my own music.
There are many artists who have influenced my music over the years, if we want to name a few we can say Nicky Romero, Manse, Martin Garrix, Ilenium or Tom Swoon.
But the artist who surely had the greatest influence on me was Avicii.
In general I appreciate all the very melodic songs that convey something.
There is nothing specific that pushes me to continue, I simply love to make music that can please as many people as possible.
The world without music would be colorless.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
My next song will be a collaboration with TRUNG and it will be different from all my previous songs.
Usually in my songs there is always a drop or a part that can be danced, this time it will be more a radio song with a very quiet and melodic drop.
Another different aspect is the vocal, normally I collaborate with different singers who make a vocal part specifically for my song but this time we used a vocal already existing and available to all.
Personally I always try to put something specific or different into each new song even if I don’t always succeed.
I hope people will like the song!
Name one or two challenges you face as musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
The biggest challenge for any musician is to be able to find their own sound and be able to stand out from the crowd to be noticed.
In the world of music there are some people who really want to help you but also many who want to take advantage of you and so you always have to be careful.
The technology in the world where I create music is fundamental, personally I create all the music with my computer and a couple of Monitor speakers.
Obviously the better the technology you have available and the better the results could be but it is not essential to have crazy recording studios.
What was the last song you listened to?
While I’m doing this interview I’m listening to music and the song I’m hearing right now is 3 a progressive house song that I really like! Really a great job! I would like to work with Vanze one day.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
During my childhood and my musical growth path I had the chance to try all three of these types.
With today’s technology, I think MP3 is the only solution because it allows you to carry lots of songs with very little space but personally I find that vinyls and CDs have a more important meaning than USB sticks have today.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Lately there are really a lot of portals for listening and selling music, some of the best in my opinion are Spotify and Apple music but each portal has a feature that makes it different from the others.
Personally I use Spotify because being one of the most used portals it provides a greater quantity of songs than others and this makes the search for a specific song more comfortable.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
Social media is a very important factor for every artist because they allow you to reach a wider audience.
I use a lot of Instagram but I’m present on all the main social networks.
To listen to my music, just visit my Youtube channel or My Soundcloud channel.
