We recently reviewed Love Is War by Kevin Luiz. All proceeds go to the Not for Sale campaign.
We took a few moments to grab a quick interview with Mr. Luiz. Our conversation is below.
Let everyone know who you are. Where you are from. And what style of music you create.
My name is Kevin Luiz, currently living in Concord, NH. Raised in various parts of New England.
My music is mostly rock infused with electronic elements, melodic singing and playing but maintaining an original sound.
What other music or bands influence you and your style?
Some of my influences would be 30 Seconds to Mars, Muse, Beck, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Mars Volta though I don’t necessarily sound like them.
What was the last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to was Midnight City by M83. Really digging that track. So original and infectious.
What is your involvement with Not For Sale? You are donating proceeds from one of your singles to the cause, right?
I am donating all of the profits from the ITunes sales of the track “love is war” to Not For Sale. They work with musicians/bands/artists to convey their message to abolish modern day slavery and sex trafficking. They even have a tour featuring various bands. The song is inspired and written from the point of view of one of the real-life Not For Sale members who went undercover to rescue numerous underage sex slaves in foreign countries.
Do you work with any other musicians, songwriters, or producers? Where do you record?
I wrote and recorded all of the music with Jesse Clinton at his studio, Rise Music Production. I perform everything except for the drums and some synths. Currently I am not touring or playing out but I am working with Jesse Clinton to get a live version of the album going.
Is the Internet/social media helping (or hurting) you connect with fans? Any specific challenges you are facing right now?
The internet has been great. I think it really has leveled the playing field for artists. I think anyone with real talent has a chance to be heard if they are willing to put forth the effort and hard work.
Do you actively gig? Any tours in the future?
Currently I am not touring or playing out but I am working with Jesse Clinton to get a live version of the album going and we have some other musicians that we may work with live.
I am hoping to record and release a full-length album next year.
Where can people find your album online? Where can we connect with you?
The best site to get the album is http://kevinluiz.bandcamp.com/
