In this interview we chat with June Jissle about his newest project Chanel Girls, now streaming on Soundcloud.
We’ve featured you before but let’s dive a little deeper into the artist and the music. What attracted you to this genre or style of music?
Growing up i was always surrounded by very talented artist music such as James brown , micheal jackson , prince , new edition , and live bands. So hearing all that growing up It pulled me more towards instrumentation. So that’s why my music usually has more than just one synth and a hand clap with a 808 thrown over it thats cool but that’s not really my flavor. my mom and dad always had soulful music playing everyday and still do this day so from my surroundings i developed the love for live drums and soulful samples
How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?
I have been creating music since the age of 8 years old when my father taught me how to use a drum machine… but I’ve been sharing my music to the public since 2011 so around 5 years
Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?
For influences I look and listen to every thing and everyone around me but most importantly my mom and dad , my bro Freddy Cajigas, my bro ron also influenced my sound and of course my favorite producer kanye west which is why i always have that soulful sound to my beats. What motivates me are things like this blessings from blogs from being featured on them to having interviews , seeing the reaction from people when they hear my work and when random people from around the world tell me they just listened to my music. But my biggest motivation is seeing my father having to go to work everyday I’m trying to make it so that he can retire and don’t ever have to work again
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
My MAIN GOAL was to give other people exposure with me on this project. since I’m a photographer as well i took pictures of different girls for the cover art of each track and named it after them and i even had a few friends give me voices to put on the tracks at the end. I also wanted to go for something different and have a story line with this project i just didn’t want to put out instrumentals and say here, heres a beat tape …
What was the last song you listened to?
Frances and The Lights “Friends” feat. Bon Iver and Kanye West
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
VINYLS !!!!! i love them i collect them .. but CDs as well it gives the person something to actually hold and it feels more personal. I think I’m one of the few left today who still buy actual CDs lol
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Apple music of course lol just because its integrated into the iOS and i don’t have to download another app lol but i love them all Soundcloud and apple music are my favs
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?
I find it hard to get new listeners to pay attention to me and my music , because now and days EVERYONE IS A RAPPER EVERYONE IS A PRODUCER so when you tell them that you make beats its like ok so does everyone else. Unless others are talking about you first no one wants to hear you sadly people wait for others to do something first to jump on the bandwagon.
Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you perform?
Unfortunately i don’t perform i wish i did one day though ill be on stage
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?
You can connect with me on my instagram at ( @Junejissle ) I’m always appreciating the love up there from people around the world and you can hear all the latest music on my soundcloud (@junejissle ) as well… or even my website … shoot me an email show some love 🙂
Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?
I want to say thank you first to you guys at Middle Tennessee Music for this opportunity i really appreciate this more than you know. Shoutout to all my close friends, my mom and dad for always supporting my dreams this is all for them. shoutout to big bro Freddy for always supporting me since day one, this project wouldn’t have been what it was if it wasnt for him helping out and also producing the best beat i ever herd “Aylesha” on my project Chanel Girls. and last shoutout to all the girls involved on this project and all my friends who gave my covers for the tracks and voices as well and my best friend Candace
