Ebony Love will be performing at the ASCAP new music showcase at 12th and Porter in Nashville. Here is our interview with her.
Let’s start with the basics. In your own words, tell everyone who you are, where you are from, and what type of music you make?
Ebony Love, from Atlanta Georgia. I make timeless music. That’s the genre.
How does it feel to be a part of Big Fella’s ASCAP showcase?
I’m honored to be invited to share my gift. I’ve received some nice checks from ASCAP!
What led you down this journey known as music?
I didn’t choose this road. It chose me. I couldn’t stop if I wanted to. It’s in my spirit from a child. It’s my purpose for living; To touch people through song, words, expression, to be the other option, to bring the balance, feed & lift spirits, to be medicine. Sugar coated medicine for the world. Im the AntiToxin.
If I had choice I’d be an attorney or work with underprivileged kids who need a voice of reason. Id be a Real Model. Real not role. Music is a universal language. So I guess God wants me to reach the masses with messages so he put this songwriting and love for music in me and sent me packing down Music road. 🙂
What are your thoughts on the local scene? How long have you been involved in it?
Im a spring chicken in Nashville. This scene is like a new toy for me. Nashville unlike Atlanta doesn’t seem to consumed by the hype and bright lights that often overshadow the art and gift of songwriting and true artistry. My music is so much bigger than the imaginary box my skin has put me in. Honestly, I’m thankful that the music that comes through me puts me in an arena with people who are blind to everything but the lyrics and music. No gimmicks, just great thought and feeling provoking music. Nashville has an honest appreciation for the art and business of songwriting. You cant feed meat to vegetarians. In Atlanta, I have been told to dumb it down, and make music “for the club”. Ive been advised to make music that will piggy back off of my “work” and features with major artist as an “easy way in”. However I know that what I do as an artist is bigger than that.
For me Nashville is an open field. When you uproot a plant, take it out of the pot and plant it in an open field, in the right soil, it will grow like wildflowers. The potential is limitless. And the blue checks will be much bigger! I see Nashvilles music scene as a vessel for me to flourish.
What artists and/or producers {have you/do you} work with?
My first major placement was on Youngbloodz last album Since then, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Yung Joc, Gorilla Zoe, Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, Keke Palmer, Trina, Rasheeda, Left Eye, Styles P, Trae the Truth, 8 ball & MJG, 2Chainz, Trinidad James many more.
Producers–Drumma Boy, Zeytovan, Kill Will, Luney Toonz, Organized Booze, Ray Murray, DJ MONTAY, DJ Burn One, Bangladesh, Sonny Digital. Cheeze, Nard & B, Dunlap, Too many to name.
This body of work and accomplishments are a reflection of my work “in the flower pot.” I was made for an open field.
What can the audience expect from you at 12th and Porter on January 30th?
The Elm Realm experience Thought provoking lyrics and music. Nothing like anything Ive done for other artist. But something everyone will feel from the Whitehouse to the poorhouse.
Albums? Singles? Videos? Where can people find your music?
I’m not sure what Gods plan is. He manages me. And He switches up!! He’s a powerful guy so who knows!! 🙂
But I plan on releasing an EP on 4/02 with DJ Burn One’s all live production team 5PMG (5 Points Music Group). I’m releasing the first single top of February. It’s called Jezebel Wins. This song will bring a much needed disturbance to the music world and change mindframes.
It is the beginning of the change.
Any last words or shout outs?
Much love to Big Fella and the guy that brought us together, Tony Delano of Kyro Ink. We are one in spirit. He does all my pics and graphics. Even more important, he gets my purpose as a vessel and ensures it is reflected in my visuals.
Last words…
Expect the unexpected. Timeless music.
The AntiToxin is here.
