Cooper Bloom is a singer-songwriter and performer from just outside Toronto, Ontario, who proudly identifies as part of the LGTBQ community. His goal is to create a community through his music where people are inspired to be true to themselves and follow their dreams.
The inspiration behind his positive new song, “Be Alright,” came from a moment when Cooper and his boyfriend were holding hands in public, and were met with hateful homophobic slurs from strangers passing by. Instead of feeling defeated, it only made him more determined to celebrate their love and to show that they won’t be silenced or ashamed.
We sat down with Cooper for an exclusive interview below!
What can you share with readers about your new project?
First of all, thank you for having me on Indie Music Discovery. I’m beyond excited to share more about my new project, a single called “Be Alright.” This song is incredibly close to my heart and serves as a powerful anthem of love, acceptance, and resilience. Inspired by a deeply personal experience with my then-boyfriend where we faced homophobic comments from strangers, I decided to channel my emotions into a song that would not only speak to our situation but also empower others who have faced similar challenges. “Be Alright” showcases the healing power of music and encourages everyone to stand tall against hate.
How does this release compare with your other projects you had in the past?
When comparing “Be Alright” to my previous projects, it’s like comparing chocolate chip cookies to double chocolate chip cookies – they’re both delicious, but one has a little something extra! The song digs deeper into my emotions, revealing a vulnerability that I haven’t shown before. The song’s creation was almost like a cathartic release, with the lyrics and melodies flowing effortlessly from within, in just 20 minutes.
What about this single makes you most proud?
I’m most proud of the fact that this single tackles a deeply personal and emotional topic while still keeping an uplifting and empowering tone. It’s like taking life’s lemons and turning them into the most delicious lemonade you’ve ever tasted! And speaking of talented mixologists, this song wouldn’t have come together or been made possible without the brilliant work of the producer, Jesse Shirts. His keen ear and creative genius helped transform “Be Alright” into the powerful anthem it is today.
Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
My goal with this release was to create a song that not only tells my personal story but also serves as a sonic high-five to others in their own journeys. I want “Be Alright” to be that friend who says, “Don’t worry, we’ve got this!”
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
When it comes to what inspires me to create music, it’s all about connecting with people, sharing emotions, and telling stories that resonate with listeners. My motivation to keep going is powered by my dream of building a deeply connected community through my artistry, where everyone feels like they belong. Plus, I really enjoy making people’s toes tap and heads bob!
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
If I could collaborate with anyone, it would be either the fabulous Shania Twain, the bar-anthem-legend Alan Jackson, or the ever-charming Dolly Parton. Why? Imagine this: with Shania, we’d be creating tunes so catchy that even your grandma would be dancing in her kitchen. Teaming up with Alan, we’d produce anthems that have every country bar packed with patrons singing their hearts out like there’s no tomorrow. And finally, with Dolly, we’d whip up melodies so enchanting that they’d bring unicorns to tears of joy. Each collaboration would be a unique, unforgettable musical adventure!
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
The last song I listened to was “Record High” by the amazing Dylan Marlowe, and I swear I’ve had it on repeat for the last 24 hours. As for my all-time favourite bands/artists, it’s like a never-ending game of musical chairs. I’m currently loving Noah Cyrus, Matt Schuster, and Alice Chater, but who knows who I’ll be listening to tomorrow?

I really appreciate your time. Is there anything you’d like to share before we sign off?
Before we say goodbye, I’d like to share a little nugget of wisdom: Life is like a box of chocolates, and music is the sweetest one of all. Enjoy every bite, and don’t be afraid to share it with the world! Thanks for having me, and I can’t wait to share more of my music with you all.
