The last time we featured Chaser Eight they had just released their album At The 426. Fast forward to the present and they are preparing to release their first studio LP. Below, *AUDRA* discusses projects we’ve missed, the direction of the new album, and the transition from releasing DIY albums to working on a full length studio album.
The new self-titled album will be available February 17, 2015.
The last time we featured you guys, At The 426 was preparing for release. What’s happened since? Any big accomplishments, amazing experiences, or anything else worth mentioning?
Totally! We have completed and are about ready to release our first self-titled studio LP! We started working on this in March of 2014 and are releasing it in February 2015. So after almost a year, it will be great to get this out. We worked so hard and we can’t wait for people to hear it. Of course, we’ve been gigging like crazy too and that’s always fun.
Have we missed any releases between At The 426 and the upcoming February self-titled release?
Yes! You missed two really cool summer releases! “Always Be Yours” and “12 Days Ago” both of which can be found on our website, our SoundCloud page for free download, and on YouTube as lyric videos. They are just really fun, laid-back summer tunes meant for driving with the top down or drinking an ice cold beer. (Not at the same time, of course. That’s illegal and Chaser Eight does not condone nor support drinking and driving.)
How has Chaser Eight’s sound changed or evolved since the last album?
We’ve really found where we belong now. We’ve found it lyrically and musically. I think it was time to shed the nice and sweet indie tones that were carrying us through our first few albums and really punch people right in the gut with this one. Chaser Eight makes no apologies. It’s dark and angry, but also cathartic and fun. We are ruthless in this one though and we just continue to become more and more ruthless. Even the new material. It’s just full on rock and powerful. We finally found home.
Were you trying to do anything different or fresh on the new release?
Yes! Well every release is an opportunity to do something new and to give the listeners a piece of something better and different. Of course, the first three albums were all DIY efforts and this is our first studio album, so the difference will immediately be heard in the quality of the music. Not that the first three albums were crap, we just tremendously stepped up our game on this one. Also, the quality of the songwriting is better. So all around this album will be something different and fresh to fans that have listened to everything previous and that is simply due to the fact that we worked our asses off in a professional studio with a professional producer and engineer.
