In this interview spotlight, I chat with Welsh Avenue about the new single (Disco Moon), challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I’m from the middle of Texas and I make piano-driven, experimental, soulful pop.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?
My background is in classical piano and that’s what I started writing first. Then I started listening to more cutting-edge music and learned how to produce. At the same time the spirit of creativity awoke in me and I just kept writing and tried to be as creative as possible. I still have more music to share within me so that keeps me going. I don’t think the passion will get old anytime soon.
How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?
I just wanted to keep pushing my boundaries since my first album. I have only been producing for a short time so I think I can develop my sound more. That was definitively one of my goals with this new album. It’s different from my old album in that it’s a higher quality product and I introduced some new sounds and textures.
Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?
Social Media isn’t my forté; I could probably do better at that, it was just never really my thing. Pretty much the only thing I can do in-depth on a computer is produce music. I am usually much more hands-on than I am digitally oriented. But the current technology within recording software has allowed me to make some unique sounds so it has definitely helped out.
Where can we follow you online and hear more music?
