In this interview spotlight, I chat with Vincenzo Grieco about his latest music, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I’m from Rome, Italy. My music style goes form Hard Rock to funk and blues, maybe something you won’t expect from an Italian musician!
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Since I was a kid, I felt the need to be able to play songs from my favorite bands and now that I’m a grown up man, and music has become my job, I still have that need to communicate my feelings through it.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
Actually this is my first album. I already released some instrumental music before, but this time it’s all about the songs.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
There are two side of the same coin. Of course technology gives us the opportunity to spread our music in the world. The bad thing is that I got more attention as a guitar player (as I’ve been doing this for years) and now it’s not very easy to be identified as a songwriter.
It all can be very fast, and it’s good to have the opportunity to upload our music everywhere, but there’s really a lot of us, and too much stuff going on!
What was the last song you listened to?
I think it was “Hot” from Reckless Love.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
I believe that CDs are the best compromise to listen to high definition recordings.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I like Spotify, it has a good interface and a good sound definition.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
I would say YouTube and Spotify, and also, if you like, you can find me on my own website at “vincenzogrieco.it”.
Anything else before we sign off?
I just wanted to thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my music, and for the wonderful job you’re doing!
