Vikki Minor, an award-nominated neo-90s alt-rock artist, unveils her latest single, “The Labyrinth.” Inspired by gothic fairytales and the grunge music she grew up loving, Minor delivers a cinematic, emotionally charged track exploring themes of depression and resilience. With its intense melodies and raw vocal performance, “The Labyrinth” marks a powerful evolution in her discography, blending the energy of her live shows with a sound reminiscent of 90s alternative icons like Alice in Chains and Garbage.
Minor collaborated with producer Zachary Zanardo (ZZ) to bring this track to life. The writing process for “The Labyrinth” was deeply personal, using the metaphor of a dark, gothic maze as a way to process her own struggles with depression. The result is a dynamic grunge anthem with dramatic shifts and an emotional journey packed into just over three minutes.
What can you share with readers about your new project?
My brand-new single “The Labyrinth” was co-written and produced by my friend, Toronto-based artist Zach Zanardo. This song is intense and definitely a head-banger! It’s a unique exploration of sound that reflects the darker side of my music.
How does this release compare with your other projects in the past?
This new track marks my evolution into alt. rock and grunge. I’ve always had a passion for gothic fairytales, and my love for ’90s grunge music came together in this song to create a depiction of depression and the journey deeper into the darkness.
What about this single makes you most proud?
Where do I start! I love to challenge myself musically and in my writing, and having the opportunity to push myself creatively—both in the way I compose and in vocal delivery—makes me incredibly proud. “The Labyrinth” is the result of that process. There are some big belting sections, and I had to work through a lot of moving parts to convey a sense of chaos. It’s one of my most challenging yet satisfying pieces of work.
Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
I wanted to express an edgier side to my music and emotions with “The Labyrinth.” My audience has already heard me explore themes of love, confusion, and queer exploration, so showing them this intense, darker side is something I was excited to share. It’s a way to deepen the connection with my listeners by showing a new dimension of myself.
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
Music is an essential way we share our feelings and feel seen. I’ve been inspired by other artists I grew up with to put out my own music, and I’ve always been writing, singing, and creating since I was young. There are times when it’s hard to keep going, but making music is an unstoppable force for me. Knowing that my songs have made an impact and resonated with others is a huge motivation for me to continue creating.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?
This is such a hard question! David Bowie would be my dream collaborator. He was a genius both as a performer and a songwriter, and his creative freedom is something I admire deeply. It’s difficult to narrow it down though, and there are so many other artists I’d love to work with!
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
I was just listening to the new track “Open Wide” by Inhaler. I’ve also had the Wicked movie soundtrack on repeat recently. My all-time favorite bands/artists include Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Wolf Alice, Bif Naked, Pixies, Blur, The Cranberries, R.E.M., Wet Leg, and Queen, to name a few!
Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
I’m active on all social media platforms, but I mostly interact on Instagram and TikTok. I’m working on getting my Discord going as well! For all the latest updates, check me out on Instagram.
