The Thigh Scrapers are a proto-punk influenced, punk/garage/glam/hard rock&roll band out of Boston. The band writes it’s own songs and now consists of Jimmy James on guitar, Alan Nahabedian on bass, Kaiser Stallman on drums and Brian Young on vocals. The bands first EP was produced by David Minehan of The Neighborhoods and they are now signed to Otto Records.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Brian (lead singer/lyricist) about the band’s music, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I’m Brian the lead singer/lyricist for The Thigh Scrapers. I am from Boston and we create a classic punk sound.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Everyone started out different. I was a radio DJ that wanted a band.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
We were just trying to sound like classic punk and protopunk.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
I don’t think anyone would know us without bandcamp and Facebook.
What was the last song you listened to?
Iggy and The Stooges – “My Girl Hates My Heroin”
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
CDs but MP3s are necessary .
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Bandcamp seems the easiest.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
You can find us everywhere but I am on Facebook a lot.
Anything else before we sign off?
The Thigh Scrapers rock. Give them a listen.
