The Rich Collective is a recording entity created by entertainment attorney Richard Clarvit. The Rich Collective’s members consist of a variety of artists and performers that Richard has worked with over the years in the music industry. The common element is that Richard, also known as Rich, wrote or co-wrote all of the songs that the Rich Collective records. Rich at times also appears as lead vocalist on the recordings.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Rich about the music, the challenges, the technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I am originally from New York City, went to college in Berkeley, California and have lived in Miami since I graduated from law school. My music is broadly described as pop but with varying influences from rock to reggae to Latin and so forth and so on. The influences vary depending on who I am collaborating with.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
I have been a musician for most of all my life, writing and performing. However I also went to law school and work in the entertainment law school field. Through my associations in the music industry I began writing and recording songs with my various industry clients and contacts. That was how The Rich Collective was formed. I love to create and I love to discover new sounds and venture into new lyrical directions.
How are your songs distinct from each other?
My songs are distinguished from each other based upon who I wrote and recorded with. Sometimes I write alone or with cowriters. For my recordings, sometimes I sing, sometimes other vocalists do. I also use varying producers and engineers. My creative control is a constant factor but I use various people in every other part of the process. Another constant factor is that I wrote or co-wrote all of the songs. The productions are greatly influenced by who in collective I happen to be working with at the time.
So my songs are distinct based upon their creation.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
The main challenge for me is the same for every indie musician, which is getting noticed. Technology has helped me with distribution. My music and videos can be accessed all over the world. Technology gave the power to reach people no matter where they are.
What was the last song you listened to?
“Living In A Ghost Town” by The Rolling Stones
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?Streaming?
Streaming
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I have no preference. My goal is to always be distributed on as many services as possible in order to share the Rich Collective’s music with the widest possible audience.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
I have my music available on all the major services and on Radio Airplay. Rich Collective has twitter, instagram, and facebook pages. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The-Rich-Collective-149804635204637/
