In this interview spotlight, I chat with Taps about the latest release (Dance All Night), challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I am from Zimbabwe in Southern Africa and create afro fusion/afro pop music.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
It wasn’t so much being led down this path. I feel it is more along the lines of this is what I was created to do. Remembering the happy faces of those back home in Africa keeps me going.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
I would say this release was different because for the first time I wasn’t doing it alone and i was surrounded by an amazing team. With that said, I wasn’t trying to accomplish anything specific except for creating a song that made people happy!
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
With the over-saturation the main challenge I face is that with so many different new songs coming out my song isn’t heard by a lot of people. As far as how technology helped, I am still trying to answer that myself!
What was the last song you listened to?
Just a few moments ago I was listening to Pride Of A Father by Hillsong Young & Free.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
MP3 would be my first choice due to how easy it is to get a song and put it on my device. With that said, I do like CD’s for the experience of buying, opening the cover and reading the lyrics.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I am not a big fan of streaming services. I like iTunes the best because it benefits the artist. It is a lot of work to create and get a body of work together and I feel that when you get music off iTunes it best supports the artist.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
Feel free to stay connected on my Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Soundcloud.
