Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
We’re based in Stockholm and Berlin and make a kind of guitar driven acoustic ambient with a Swedish melancholic vibe to it (we’re told…J).
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?
It all emerged from us having written and produced the score for various drama and crime series on Swedish national television and getting lots of requests from people wanting to know where to find the music. But since most of it was written directly to picture we thought it didn’t really work on its own. Which in the end meant that we had written a whole new set of songs. Although still with the idea of a movie in our heads while we did it if that makes sense…
We had a great time composing and recording the record, and if we can make the listener feel just a little bit of that sensation we probably succeeded. And that’s what we believe music is all about in the end; communicating emotions.
How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?
This is the first actual release on our own. We’ve also worked as songwriters and producers for more than 15 years with a vast varieties of acts (Ryan Adams, The Veronicas, Clay Aiken, Scorpions to name a few) but decided that it was finally time to create something that was entirely ours, and also releasing it on our own label without a major record company.
We didn’t really have a specific plan when we started out half a year ago but along the way we found the sound we where looking for or maybe it found us… Who knows, but we like to believe that it’s a very honest record.
Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?
A challenge is obviously to reach out to an audience that haven’t heard you before but we’ve only just started and the more we dig the more we find in terms of communities and blogs that are into our style of music.
And we’ve discovered a lot of great acts ourself from the blogs we’ve been in contact with that we wouldn’t have found on the usual streaming service playlists.
Where can we follow you online and hear more music?
Our new record is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play and Amazon (see below).
Also visit us at www.strummingana.com or on FB, which is our label.
