In this interview spotlight, I chat with Soulride about the music, dream collabs, favorite songs of all time and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Are you able to choose a favorite song of all time? Or would you label this an impossible task? If yes, what’s the song? If no, what’s your current Top 3?
This may sound weird from a metal guy, but my current top three songs would be Edge of The Ocean by Stick Figure, Time Stands Still by Rush, and Love Song by The Cure.
What about this project makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
Positive energy and vibe is what I’m most proud of. The goal is really just to create good music. We have another song we’re releasing soon called Broken. It addresses opioid addiction and is pretty heavy. My dad passed away from complications from this, so the song has a lot of meaning. Plus, I feel it’s our best yet.
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
Great question. Covid lockdown started this project. The singer Andy and I started swapping riffs on our phones and wrote Flavor of the Month. That sparked new energy, and us reaching out to old friends and bandmates, Jeff and Scott.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
Probably Robert Plant or Ozzy. Their voices are so unique and the songs they write are timeless.
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
Favorite bands are probably Led Zeppelin, Rush, The Cure, Ozzy, and AC/DC. More recently, I tend to stream artists. I’m a big fan of reggae and really love Bob Marley and more recently, Stick Figure.
Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
The best place to stay connected with Soulride is probably our YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@SOULRIDE or our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/soulridemusic/
I appreciate Your time. Want to say or plug any other projects before we part ways?
I would like to give a big shoutout to my wife Jae for always supporting any project I’ve been involved with. Also, Andy Mitchel, Jeff Barbaree, and Scott Collins, my brothers in Soulride. And of course you for granting this interview and supporting this project, it means a lot.
