Rising singer-songwriter Sophia Eiss is the latest singer out of the bubbling LA music scene, and she’s making a huge statement for her first release of 2021 with “Immaculate Vibes”, a slice of pop-R&B magic. Having only debuted last year, the independent artist has already begun to amass a following and looks set to continue her rise with this new release.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Sophia about the latest music, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I am born, raised, and reside in Los Angeles, California. The music I make is experimental indie R&B, pop vibe but always exploring different genres.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve written songs. It started with the way music made me feel with the music my mom showed me on the way to school or sports practices. I have been mesmerized by the influence of music and its messages; songwriting has continued to be an outlet for me ever since I was a kid.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
I recently started working with a new producer – his name is Jaye Locke. It has been an incredible experience working with him. I feel scene, heard, and believed in when I show him an idea. I can’t wait to see what we continue to make. With “Immaculate Vibes” we were trying to tell a story and really match the lyrics to vibey instrumentals.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
One of the hardest challenges as an indie musician is really not giving up. I’ve only really been pushing music hard for about a year now and it’s just a process you got to keep fighting for. There are people that will appreciate it. Keep pushing, learning, and getting better. Specifically, TikTok has helped me amass a small following but I do find social media quite difficult at moments. I’m pretty awkward haha more of a songwriter than an influencer 🙂
What was the last song you listened to?
“Sauce” – Remi Wolf
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Vinyls are fantastic. Sitting down, no skips. Just as an artist intended to show a collection of work.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
SPOTIFY! I love my Spotify Wrapped and personalized playlists. (I love you Spotify).
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
Instagram, DM me. I love talking with fans and other music junkies. Share music with me and let’s talk about ANYTHING.
Anything else before we sign off?
I can’t wait to show you the new music I’ve been working on 😉
