Solcura, the relentless alt rock band from the south of England. Formed in 2018, and bringing with them their genre-melding mix that strays all the way from alternative rock to breakneck punk, from ethereal acoustic to skull pounding grunge. Their debut album SEROTONIN delivers ten carefully crafted tracks, symbiotically blended from each member’s unique palette of influences. Ambitious, fired up and always
hungry for more, these four creative minds are driven by their passion and desire to bring back a little diversity and experimentation to the vast landscape of modern Rock, with much more to come.
Touring and writing exhaustively even now, back in the studio already recording their sophomore effort and kicking off their debut album cycle with a sold out release show followed by a killer performance at Bloodstock Open Air Festival, Solcura are looking to take their riff-laden euphoria to a show near you!
Are you able to choose a favorite song of all time? Or would you label this an impossible task? If yes, what’s the song? If no, what’s your current Top 3?
Definitely an impossible task, the answer changes almost every day!
My current Top 3:
Shine On You Crazy Diamond – Pink Floyd
Map Change – Every Time I Die
The Pot – Tool
What about this project makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
I think that we’ve hit a much more atmospheric and interesting space with our music now, and that better represents the individual qualities of each band member better than our previous release, of which we are still immensely proud of course. These new releases however just hit a bit more aggressively, dive a little deeper into the emotional journey through each track and ultimately resonate more in line with our own personalities. We were trying to dive into a heavier, darker place with this release and that is absolutely what we’ve accomplished.
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
So many different things. Inspiration can come from anywhere, day to day routine, more impactful life events, or even from each other when we get together to rehearse and show each other material that we’ve been working on. We listen to a lot of music together too, which is always inspiring. We are lucky enough to have an insanely wide range of influences, which really allows for inspiration to strake from anywhere.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
I would really love to have worked with Ray Manzarek before he passed, or any member of The Doors really. Their hyper organic, jam-based and heavily psychedelic writing process always fascinated and enraptured me to no end.
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
Right now, I’m listening to Subdivisions by Rush!
My favourite all time bands is a difficult thing to answer because, again, it changes so often as we discover or rediscover music we love, but I’ll give it a go.
Every Time I DieThe Doors
Tool
Rush
Pink Floyd
Alice In Chains
Pearl Jam
Rage Against The Machine
