Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I currently live in Nashville, TN and love it! The city has greatly influenced me as an artist. I believe you can find art anywhere you look, if you want to, but in Nashville, I really feel like the community tries to incorporate it into everything. As far as style of music goes, I would classify SHEE as Indie Pop, all though I do feel like my music touches elements present in a lot of other genres. As I release more music in the near future, listeners will notice some lyrical subjects that return in a different form, that’s simply because there are some things I really believe in and so naturally they manage to work their way into what I write.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Initially, I was a bit afraid of showing people what I had written. I started writing when I was 14. I wrote about myself, other people around me or events in the world. I really used to just write music for myself, to help cope or enjoy whatever phase of life I was in. My own personal little soundtrack. Not to get all depressing here, but I really got inspired to share my music after a couple deaths happened within my family. I began to think deeply about what I wanted to leave behind when my time was done as well as what I may have regretted not trying. Music was one of those things. I enjoyed my music and I knew not everyone would, but I thought, maybe some people would and even possibly benefit from it, as I had. I decided to put my best foot forward and give it all a go and worse case, if nothing happened after I had given it my all, I would have peace of mind in knowing this wasn’t my path in life.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
This is my first release, I am really hoping bring awareness to the project and brand behind the project. I’ve spent a lot of time creating all the concepts, content and writing the songs and I am really excited to start sharing it!
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you?
Being independent definitely has its challenges but it does allow for more opportunity to create. I really love creating, it took me a while to figure that out. I always thought I had to be interested in one avenue, film, music, photography, writing ect. I was really torn between choosing, until one day I realized, I think I just enjoy creating. It all kind of made sense once I started to pursue music, in order to be an independent artist I would need to be capable creating in all of those ways. I am just starting my journey, but so far I’ve enjoyed it all, challenges and successes alike.
What was the last song you listened to?
Swan Song by Dua Lipa
Which do you prefer Vinyl, CD or MP3s?
I prefer MP3s simply because I enjoy being able to take music with me everywhere I go.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I prefer Spotify at the moment however I’m not opposed to any of the other platforms, Spotify is just the one I am currently most familiar with.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
Instagram and Spotify, we are going to be releasing songs very frequently and those are the two best platforms so far, to keep up with all things SHEE.
Anything else before we sign off?
I hope after listening to my music people are able to take away pieces that help inspire them to create and live out their passions. We only get to do life once and I just want everyone to get to live it to the fullest.
