Full Q&A along with links and a stream of Universal below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
Global, mindful and sensitive. The project Safetalk is is about exploring communication between one another. We all have backgrounds in songwriting and production with a love of a broad taste of genres, from classical, hip hop and into techno music. This cross-genre approach leads you into making pop music.Indeed; our attitude is to follow one rule, keep it simple and effective, that is both the message and the music.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?
Music is a mystery to most who follow the road either recreationally or professionally, It can take you to places that do not exist and leave you lost for hours exploring the new realms around you, it is the cure to almost everything. It serves as a universal language, a rhythm that is within all of us…for Safetalk the motivation is to write something that will last a very long time and stand the test outside of genres so we dont feel our music is referenced by a period of time..the message is very important.
Safetalk in many ways reflects the social narrative that we are witnessing at this point.
How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?
We wanted to reflect after the first release with some alternative re works of the single Universal. For us what has been important has to be the quality of the work that we are releasing, the remixes that are coming out reflect different avenues of sound interpretation. The same message can be expressed in many ways, that what we want to share.
Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?
We rely on technology to write obviously music and remain in communication, as the band is split in two countries. What has been interesting on our first release is we are very conscious not to overexert ourselves as a project on people. We are independent and have consciously decided to build organically our online archive, the partnership between ourselves and listeners to us is unique. So many people have given us support because of their love of the first release Universal, not because we launched an aggressive campaign, the objective is in a sense about exploring our journey in finding listeners as much as it is about releasing the material, we are finding our tribe, it is happening.
