In this interview spotlight, I chat with Red Farrow about the Communion project, favorite songs of all time, dream collabs and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
What are your Top 3 favorite songs of all time?
Wow that’s a hard one to start off with but if I had to chose…
- ‘The End of Love’ – Florence and the Machine
- ‘Lovely Day’ – Bill Withers
- ‘I Feel Love’ -Donna Summers
They are equally as perfect as they are monumental to my own story.
What about Communion makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
I know we are just early into this year, but I already feel a sense of action and realization with the release of this album and moving to LA. Besides, for the songs themselves, I am proud to have actually finished something and to have put it out. This may not sound like much, but I have always had a crippling fear that I can’t match my talk with walk. I knew I had a deadline for this EP, being February 1st, so having this album released in time, and having it be something that I am proud of, feels like a great reaffirmation.
As for the songs themselves, I am so happy with each of the collaborators and thankful for everyone coming together to make this happen!
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
For myself, music and motivation have changed significantly since I started my journey. When I first started music, I was in search of something creative. I love to live life experience-first, but I felt like I wasn’t making anything that could be left behind when all the living was done. Music had been something that always kept me going, and now I wanted to create the same for others. This led to me, realizing that music comes from us, but it is not for us. I think that my experiences inspire my music, but the way that others connect to it is what motivates me to keep going. Music is still a service like everything else, and it is a tool to practice empathy, provide language for others to process their experiences, and give people release wether on the dance floor or at home.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?
There are so many people that have been fundamentally influential in my process of becoming a music producer, but if I had to pick one, I would probably turn to Giorgio Moroder. ‘I Feel Love’ is one of the most impactful songs in my development as an electronic artist, and I have looked up to Giorgio ever since I found out who he was. There have been so many people who have crafted modern music behind the scenes for so long. Giorgio, one of these pioneers, is someone I have always looked up to.
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
I have been going down a darker electronic music dive recently as I look for inspiration for my next project. I have been obsessed with the recent tracks released by Skrillex and his collaboration with Fred Again. I have also been really loving the new TSHA album. She is incredible. My favourite all-time band is probably Florence and the Machine. The emotionality and lyrical content of each album hits me every time.
Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
As a true millennial I live mostly on instagram, but I am slowly falling in love with video content and Tik Tok. You can find me on all platforms under: @redfarrowmusic
I appreciate Your time. Want to say or plug any other projects before we part ways?
Thank you for taking the time to ask me about my music! I would definitely love to shamelessly plug my EP if someone hasn’t heard it yet and to look out for a remix album coming very soon. I love remixes. Also feel free to reach out for collaborations and remixes!
