If you wanna go on a Pop / Rock trip, sail away in an Electro boat to travel the world, you should meet Reaven. 4 strong identities, 4 guys who met along the way, leading to a Pop / Rock universe colored with a provocative electro touch. Reaven offers a very personal Indie Rock sound with powerful and catchy melodies. With different atmospheres, from Acoustic to Rock, the band tries to explore many paths. They’re known for their intense shows, the special and unique lead voice signature, and a pure work on the vocal harmonies.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Romeo Bassi (lead singer, guitarist, songwriter) of Reaven about the latest music, adapting during the pandemic, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?
Hi guys ! We are the band Reaven and we come from France. I think we can describe our musical style as a mix of Indie Pop-Rock-Electro music. You’ll be able to find a wide range of atmospheres, from acoustic to rock, from up-tempo songs to very deep and calm ones.
How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?
I think I always knew I wanted to make a living from my music. I started very young. And I’ve been lucky to build my first band at the age of 14, with good friends. I guess that after that, it was quite logical to me to pursue it in this way and try to live from my passion.
How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?
I think that our upcoming album “For Tomorrow” (release planned the 6th of May), like our EP “(Be)For Tomorrow” (released in July 2021) are a bit different from our previous album “Unbreakable” (2018). We’re trying to offer a mix between our past and our present. Focusing on different themes, I’m writing a lot about the future, what we will leave to the next generations. Trying to send a message of benevolence and peace. I like to compose and write very spontaneously, I think that’s where I can give my best. Our upcoming album explores a lot of different sounds as well, but I always give the melody a major importance. To me, this is always the key, the heart of any song. Then, when my melody is good enough, I dress up the song with the colors I like. But I’m always super perfectionist with the melody first.
Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented times? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?
The biggest challenge was to continue to exist for our audience. To provide new songs, news, or anything that keeps the boat floating. I just kept on composing, creating, trying to develop the project as much as possible, from where I was. We also filmed a new music video, and we tried to connect as much as possible with our audience online.
What was the last song you listened to?
I think it was “Happy Birthday In The Sky” from Placebo’s new album. Just wanted to check out their new release.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?
For the sentimental part, and because I love the item, I would say vinyl. For the quality of the sound, I prefer the .Wav format with our speakers in our recording studio.
Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?
We recently released a new official website here: https://reavenmusic.net/ where you can find absolutely everything about the band and all the useful links. You can connect with us on Instagram or Facebook, we’re trying to respond as fast as we can.
