Full Q&A, along with links and a stream of Kill My Love below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I’m born and raised in Kiruna, Sweden. It’s the northernmost town in Sweden way above the Arctic Circle. I like to write honest and simple indie pop songs about different feelings and moods we get from the life we are living and I think my background is something that reflects my sound. There’s a certain melancholy that you get after spending most of the year with long, cold and dark winters. I live now in Uppsala, which lies more in the southern part of Sweden and the climate is a bit warmer over here so it gives me inspiration to combine the melancholy lyrics with some happier sounds.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?
Everything started when I was around 10 or 11 years old. I learned my first D major chord on the guitar and started immediately to write my own songs. I also really liked U2 at this time and thought I could play every U2 song with my D major chord all over the guitar neck. The feeling of creating and writing songs has always been my biggest motivation to continue to play music.
How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?
For a long time I have done my own home recordings and demos that have received good response but I wanted do something more properly. So I contacted the german producer Thomas Harsem who also lives in Uppsala and we started to work together and recorded the song “Kill My Love”. The result turned out great and we immediately found a vibe that I was looking for. It feels like a fresh and perfect newstart to my Rain on Monday project and I have more songs I’m looking forward to relase and share to the people.
Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?
I use a lot today’s technology to get new listeners and I think it’s a very inspiring way to work and promote yourself. But it’s also like an anthill, you got to work hard to reach out with your music otherwise no one will hear it.
