In this interview spotlight, I chat with Parker Rose about his music, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with music and links below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I am from Los Angeles and the style of music I create is Indie/Pop.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Life and music from the Brill Building led me down this path. What motivates me to continue is that I love the music I’m making.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
With each new release, the goal is to top the previous one. What makes the new release different from the previous ones is that it is better. I was trying to accomplish a song that will motivate you and give you something to dance to.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
In this age of social media, it is actually much harder to get through to people now. If they don’t know you, you will be ignored. They won’t even tell you to leave them alone anymore, at the risk of sounding human. It’s hard to tell who hears my music when I rarely get a response. Before, record labels were more willing to sign unproven talent based on what they heard. Now, they won’t give you the time of day if you don’t have enough likes on facebook or followers on twitter. You have to be independently successful before they even think of touching you. You can now buy likes and followers and youtube views but I refuse to do that because BOTS will not see me in concert. This logic makes no sense to me because if I was independently successful, who needs them? I will just continue doing it myself.
What was the last song you listened to?
Billie Eilish – Bad Guy
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
CDs
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Soundcloud because it is very user friendly and Reverbnation because they hooked me up with a nice, professional looking website. Parker Rose
