Arman Asadsangabi (a.k.a Oddnote) was born and raised in Nashville, TN with a vigor and creativity only found in a very few.
In 2018, Oddnote‘s first release, the rock anthem “Money Comes, Money Goes“, was immediately placed into two of the most-popular Rock playlists on Spotify, quickly generating over 600,000 streams. Regular on-air support from local rock radio stations including 102.9 The Buzz and Lightning 100 soon followed, as did taste maker music blog press (“Rock’s next generation for Soundgarden and Nirvana fans” – AlternativeNation.com) and the release of Oddnote‘s self-titled debut full-length album.
2019 brings Oddnote‘s sophomore LP titled Unknown, preceded by yet another anthemic single, “Dreams“. Recorded with the team at DogFox Studio in Nashville, Oddnote continues to impress with this new material.
The goal is to make a pivotal mark in the ongoing evolution of Alternative rock music. Although an artist for just a year, Oddnote possesses a soul heavy with truth and a sound that naturally expresses wonder.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Oddnote about the new album, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create?
Oddnote is an Alternative Rock/Grunge band from the heart of Nashville, TN
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Legacy led me down this path of music; it’s all I seek to create before I pass. The main thing that motivates me to keep going is love, truth and sound… it’s all I have everlasting in my life.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
This new track we released, “Dreams”, touches on a lot of different concepts I’ve been focused on lately in my life. The absence of being is very present in what the writing process has held these past few months and we want to portray that in every song we release.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
Promotion and engagement has been both an issue and a promise through technology in this industry. While it’s easy to make a connection with different people, the physicality of what we are trying to explore and create is very hard to possess with all that is technologically available right now (social media).
What was the last song you listened to?
Up in Smoke by Tigercub
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Vinyl for sure, I just really love physicality in art.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Spotify, it’s simple and straightforward.
