In this interview spotlight, I chat with Nathan Miller about his latest release, challenges, motivations and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I’m from Kansas City, MO. I create a mixture of Bluegrass & Rock n roll.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
My family has been creating music for years. My mom was an avid karaoke singer. And my uncle has been performing covers for years.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
When I first started i was a rapper who didn’t know what he wanted. But then I found a guitar and truly felt it. This release is reflection of that feeling. Before I was trying. Now I’m doing. And I wasn’t going for anything specific. I just wanted to feel it.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
One challenge I face is getting heard. Tech has helped somewhat. I’ve had more success meeting people in person. But I just started sending in submissions which is changing allot for me. So in simpler words Tech has helped me get my music to the right people.
What was the last song you listened to?
“The Spy” by The Doors
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Vinyl. I love the dirty sound records have when your needle is 6 months old and on its last leg. It’s like transporting back in time.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Bandcamp. I like that people can choose to buy your music or if they just want to listen to it they can do that to. I think that makes the consumer feel better about your tunes and in turn makes them feel like They can listen to your music without spending their money.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
Anything else before we sign off?
Music is my life. It’s my spirit. It’s the only thing I’ve ever found that transcends right or wrong. It saved my life. Let the Goodtimes Roll.
