In this interview spotlight, I chat with Mr. Muzix about the latest project (Muzix’s Diary), adapting during a pandemic, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?
I am from Lithonia, GA and I would describe my music as something to feel rather than hear.
How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?
I’ve always had a passion for music. Starting with the guitar at a very young age, playing drums in middle school, learning piano in high school, and teaching myself bass guitar during my college years, I knew there was something I was destined to do in music. During the pandemic, I began to write and produce songs that later developed into my first album “STAGES”. As friends and family shared their compliments, I decided to start performing and began to build somewhat of a career for myself.
How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?
My newest project “Muzix’s Diary” is a deluxe album of some remastered old and unreleased songs. My biggest goal was to re-imagine the music that was good in order to make it great.
The biggest challenge I’ve had to face is that of the internal struggle an artist faces. The question of “Is this truly what I want to do?”, this sprouts due to the realization that the journey is not as fun as it seems
What was the last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to is “Zion” by Lauryn Hill. I find it a very inspirational piece as well as a very emotional piece. Her ability to be vulnerable is something I find extremely interesting and elite.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?
I prefer Vinyl records over other listening forums. I appreciate the originality, the tangible handling, and preserved dynamics that come with it.
Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?
The best place to connect with me is via my Instagram — @mr_muzix There, you can view photos and videos of some recent performances, obtain info on new releases, and even find me when I’m just jamming out with friends.
I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?
