The latest from Moves is Hiss 3 – Hissterectomy, the third installment in his signature series of production compilations named for the high end hiss distinct to cassette tapes.
When the first one dropped in 1995, simply titled Hiss, it was strictly a cassette release that was only re-released on CD much later. After Hiss 2 – Hissteria was only released on CD, volume 3 revisits the original inspiration with a limited run of cassettes available through Low Pressure, along with CDs and digital through Hand’Solo.
As usual, Moves brings the boom bap beat heat, and always with a unique twist that illuminates his quirky production style. And to crush said beats, he taps the talents of underground legends Kwest the Madd Lad and Luke Sick, frequent collaborators like Birdapres, Mindbender, Fatt Matt, Tachichi and Cee!!!!!!!!, plus the awesome return of deviant “Mayor of the World” Governor Bolts!
Be prepared to hear about: lots of drug and alcohol abuse, literal auto eroticism, this new thing called hip hop, odes to crew (or lack thereof!), and back to yet more drug abuse at the end. Jay O Smooth says it best closing out Side 1 of the cassette with “Fuckin’ LPFC”: “Low Pressure Fried Chicken gang tonight, east coast legends like Wu-Tang and Phife.” And that’s hella facts.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Moves about the new release, his lengthy career, his love for Hip Hop and much more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Who is Moves? Where are you from?
Im a music producer from truro, nova scotia canada. Ive made albums and toured canada, the states and europe since the 1990s
Ive released 60 albums since 1993. Have had 3 record deals and 1 platinum record while being a producer/dj for the group len “steal my sunshine”
What style of music do you create? What attracted you to this genre or style?
I create boom bap hiphop out of a mixture of samples and weird keyboard noises.
Who or what influences your rapping?
I get influenced by listening to obscure hiphop from the 80-90s and from everyday life
How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?
My first album released on a wide scale was by my group in high school “hip club groove” we got a record deal with mca records and sold 10-20,000 copies while still in high school of the album “trailer park hiphop”. Which was also the idea for the tv show “the trailer park boys” cory bowles (in the trailer park boys) was one of the mcs in the group.
What motivates you to keep going?
I love making music. For me its an escape from my everyday 9-5 job and feels great to create something out of virtually nothing
Why should people listen to Moves?
Im a true school hiphopper, have been since i was 16 and will continue to help spread the actual culture to peoples around me
What is your new release? How is it different from the previous ones?
My newest release , hiss 3 – hissterectomy is a showcase of hard beats ive made over the last few years and friends rapping over them that ive met and collaborated with
Did you set out to accomplish anything specific with this album?
I release prob 5 physical releases a year this was just a normal progression. I asked handsolo records to help out with this one as they reach a wider audience than i can by myself.
Where is the best place to connect with you online? And to discover more of your music?
That is where almost all of my albums are other than ones released by others that are still selling
Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
All of my stuff is on all platforms spotify seems to be the biggest right now.
What about vinyl, CDs, and MP3s?
Last year i released a 7 inch for “smiggity smoke” through black buffalo records and 2 cds on my own label lowpressure records
As an indie musician in the digital age, how does the technology help and how does it hinder your art and career?
It helps pay the bills and also to be able to afford to make physical copies. Ill always make physical copies to hold in my hand.
What are your other biggest challenges in attracting an audience to your music?
Getting your musics out there. As a person who works 9-5 everyday and sometimes weekends. There isnt always time in the day to make the music, mix the product and get it out there in all forms.
What was the last song you listened to?
Asap rocky – excuse me. (I like that album because it was all made on acid)
Do you tour or play live? Where can music lovers find out where to see you perform?
I dj around nova scotia and the maritimes a few times a month. Old school and classic hiphop.
Peeps can find me on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/BigMoves

Any last thoughts, shout outs, or words of wisdom?
Ive been through it all. Record deals, advances, tours around the world. And all i really gotta say is do it from the heart. You dont need a deal and to pay people back all the time. Do it yourself. Its much happier in the end
Id just like to thank handsolo records and black buffalo records for always bein dope and good peoples. My crew (lowpressure records, sipset, 5 headed r-tard )
And my moms for always helpin out when shit gets tough. Thx for having me.
