Moses, a four-piece alternative act that deliver arena-worthy, interactive rock and roll entertainment, have unleashed their new single, Mirror Magic via Space & I Records. The band, formed of Matthew McCrilly (drums), Otta Bayley (guitar/BVs), James Creighton (bass) and Victor M. Moses (vocals), had their new song produced by Gavin Monaghan, at Wolverhampton’s Magic Garden Studio.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Moses about the latest music, adapting during lock downs, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?
We are a London based band who would describe our music as uplifting. It’s a mix of rock and britpop tunes with a punky live show. So far we have had many comparisons, maybe one day somebody will compare a band to MOSES! Maybe…
How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?
We are all driven by a passion for music. It’s been some journey already, but our end of 2021 release – ‘Mirror Magic’ – feels like we are getting some momentum towards releasing a second album.
How does your latest project, ‘Mirror Magic’, compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?
‘Mirror Magic’ has a dark swagger, maybe it reflects the last few years. We recorded it with Gavin Monaghan at Magic Garden Studios and he manages to catch our vibrations as well as our sound.
We’re never sure where our writing will take us, until the song is complete, but they have to feel special to make the recording studio and live performance. We want people to listen and even for a few minutes, escape with our music
Being an extended collective of musicians, through line up changes (as 2021 ends, it’s five years since our first release!) we have different composition and playing skills in the songs and the new material takes unexpected turns, rather than following a theme.
Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented times. How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?
The biggest challenge to this band has been to keep going. Whether that’s finance, luck, energy or well being.
When things look like they could go well, something often goes wrong. Belief in the music that we’re making helps us get back up and keep going forward. We keep creating moments and turn the set backs into musical positivity, somehow!
Probably the biggest boost to the MOSES story is our audience. Our fans are more than special with their support. We’re still buzzing from our first headline tour (which finally happened this Autumn) and already looking forward to getting back on stages around the country, in 2022.
Playing live is one of our biggest inspirations. We WANT to leave every audience entertained!
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?
We appreciate that our music can be heard world wide (and on the move) digitally, but have a special “thing” for vinyl and are so happy that we managed to press our first album, ‘Almost Everything Is Bullshit’ for posterity. We’ve been asked about CDs, something we’re also looking into for the future. There’s an additional look and feel to physical music but we want people to hear us by any means necessary.
Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?
Please do connect! The feedback is appreciated and it really does feel like we are on the next leg of this band’s journey right now. We are on the usual on line platforms.

…and also get to see and hear fellow music lovers in real life at the shows.
I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?
Thank you so much for the interview. Really hope that you enjoy ‘Mirror Magic’ and what MOSES, as a band, do next!
