Marzzhia Janine (MJ) Ancheta, mononymously known as MARZIA, has gained global recognition for her live performances and vocal range. Following up on her debut single, “SHE IS HER,” released this past January, MARZIA is now sharing the Ariana Grande-inspired track, “SUPERMODEL.”
Inspired by Grande’s “Jason’s Song,” the feel, vibe and overall aura of “SUPERMODEL” evokes pop, R&B and soul sounds with a little dabbling into funk. Growing up on stage, MARZIA has always loved live instruments and live bands, and really wanted to incorporate that for her future shows.
What can you share with readers about your new project?
I’m super excited about this new project. It is a whole different side of MARZIA and touches more of the upbeat and soulful side of me. It has just been a lot of fun being able to perform this live. Watching the dance moves and the smiles to end off a live set. There have been a lot of revisions, a lot of versions and a lot of effort put in to make this song come together. It took about a year from start to finish. A special thank you to Sanha Kim for bringing this song to life.
How does this release compare with your other projects you had in the Past?
SUPERMODEL has been a longer process overall. From the tracks to recording to revisions to mixing. It has been a long process yet I’ve enjoyed every single aspect of it.
What about this single makes you most proud?
The instrumentation, the way that it brings people together. The live sections and seeing it come to life when being played live. I recently had a show and SUPERMODEL was my favourite track to have performed. It was so much fun! From my band mates to the audience, the vibes were just so present.
Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
I wanted it to give the “Song of the Summer” vibes, though the summer has ended, but a long that you hear on the radio and put it on full blast. I not only wanted it to reach my current audience of SOUL/RNB but an audience with a love for POP as well.
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
I have always loved music. I don’t think I would be where I am if I didn’t have that passion for music. What motivates me to keep going is seeing the true enjoyment and love that people share when they connect to a song that I’m performing. I get to see their faces and with that, share those emotions with them. I love to collaborate with fellow musicians and be a part of a community that shares the same drive as me to keep going. To reach those dreams and reach those goals.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
There is no doubt about my answer, It would be Ariana Grande and Michael Jackson. These 2 are my biggest influences in my drive for music. The level at which they can perform and how they captivate the world with just their music alone.
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
The last song I listened to is MUTT by Leon Thomas. Gotta love this man’s artistry. Favourite artists include Ariana Grande, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, H.E.R, Giveon, Tori Kelly.
