In this interview spotlight, I catch up with Malxolm Brixkhouse to chat about the latest release, dream collabs, favorite song of all time and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Are you able to choose a favorite song of all time? Or would you label this an impossible task? If yes, what’s the song? If no, what’s your current Top 3?
My favorite song of all time, believe it or not, is “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was a big inspiration for me to want to become a performer.
I also like “Master of Puppets” by Metallica and “Chop Suey” by System of a Down.
What about this project makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
To tell you the truth, “1 More Time” was a throw-away song. I released it because I wanted to give my supporters some new music to listen to, while I work on completing my new EP.
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
What inspires me to create music, is music is my personal journal. I’m not usually good at handling my emotions, spiritually, emotionally or physically. Having a project to work on gives me a way to express myself and the emotions I have and it’s also cool to see how other people relate to it.
What motivates me to keep going is when I really want to give up, I get little signs from my higher power not to give up. For example, this interview, a fan DMs me to say how I inspire them or how my music got them through a tough time. More recently, a beast of a drummer and a bassist showed up and I’ve been looking for new band mates since 2020!
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
I would like to have collaborated with Juice Wrld, XXXTentacion and Lil Peep. I believe they opened the doorway for music styles like mine to have a platform.
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
The last song I listened to today was “Sunday” by Earl Sweatshirt and Frank Ocean.
My favorite all-time bands are Disturbed and Linkin-Park. I always loved their passion and highly intensive energy, because I was a quiet and sad kid. Listening to their music made me feel powerful. Truthfully, they are the bands who inspired me to start my first band.
Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
The best place to find me and stay connected is on Instagram @Malxolm.Brixkhouse.
I appreciate Your time. Want to say or plug any other projects before we part ways?
Well, I am working on a new EP. It’s nothing like I’ve done before.
Thank you too Joshua for having me again and you so much for choosing me for this interview.
