Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I’m from Italy. My love for music has been a childhood passion, and listening to many great Italian artists such as Adriano Celentano and Toto Cutugno gave me the ears and feel I needed for music from an early age. In my very early teens I discovered the great ‘King Of Pop” Michael Jackson who’s style is unmatched and his performance knows no limits. I was truly inspired and additional talents such as ‘Lionel Richie’ with his smooth ballads, and ‘Boyz 2 Men’ with their incredible harmonies, led me to start honing my skills and my journey of learning from the best, which undeniably so is showing in my very own style today.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Music always made me feel free and with the right song even powerful and motivated. I started wondering why music was able to pull on emotional strings but instead of continuing to wonder about it I just figured “ride the wave” and don’t worry about it. I never wanted to get caught up in analyzing and getting paralyzed from it. I wanted to be able to inspire and motivate, as I never saw myself as a follower but more as a leader and having lived a trying life I definitely understand what it means when you want to escape, even if it’s three and a half minutes at a time.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
“She Wants Control” is a song that was inspired by the legendary Michael Jackson. I wanted to keep the beat and feel of the song true to his style and 90’s era without loosing the modern feel. I think the song is different from my other songs as I feel it’s a fun, summer party-song. Its “light spirited feel” without a heavy message to send makes it radio-ready for everyone to enjoy. I’m sure Michael Jackson would have been proud.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
Well, does technology really help, that is the question. The way I see it, technology is superior when such things as effects, fast re-recordings and sound cleanup are at your finger tips But the disadvantage of technology I believe is the “over-producing” that happens. Too many EQ’s, too many layers, to the point that everything gets washed out. Although a lot of producers are getting the upper hand on these issues.
Technology is good in helping you release music fast and efficient and with social media one can promote more, although I believe radio is still king. Yes, the market is oversaturated because technology enables many to be able to make a product without being able to sing properly, no one is perfect but my point is that some people can’t hold a note and computer technology fixes all off-tune singing. True Singer/Performers such as myself get lost in the masses, so technology makes me spend more money so I can get ahead of the pack and properly promote on the bigger platforms.
What was the last song you listened to?
Post Malone-Circles
He has fresh and different vibe to his songs. He is in his own lane.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
What I prefer and what sells are two different things. I guess CDs are fine with me.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I don’t have a preference because they are all digital outlets with different reaches into the industry and fans use different platforms.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
You can find me pretty much anywhere online, YouTube, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Google Play, Emusic, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Radio Airplay etc….and some local radio stations.
Just type into Google “LuQa music” and you will find me.
