Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
We are from Portlaoise, a town in the center of Ireland. We create music in the first instance that resonates with our inner being, a connection to a place of magical mystery and creativity.
Our creations are nurtured into life, supported by a life support system, of pulsating drums, hypnotic rhythms, ambient guitars and lush keys. Themes of love, loss, self-discovery permeate the lyrics.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Music is very much part of our Celtic heritage, our DNA. The love of the native landscape, it’s natural rhythms and energy awakens a creative spirit that allows you to create tapestries to soothe the soul. As a musician and songwriter, you are always restless, searching, trying to improve on your artist’s output. Collaborations with other fellow travelers make the journey interesting and rewarding. We plan to go back into Golden Egg Studios to record our third album later in the year. We have already road-tested a number of new songs and we can’t wait to record them
How is the release of “Deconstruction of the Mind” different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
This album was born out of a tremendous desire to reevaluate existence and to head out on a great adventure of self-discovery.
‘The deconstruction of the mind, the segue to a place
The silence, the fall, the breaking of the mould
The colours all explode, the wonder of it all
Look at the birds out in the sky, look how they fly, look how they fly
In a heartbeat, in a heartbeat, you and I, you and I’
As the great Leonard Cohen said ’ there’s a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in ‘
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
It is very difficult as an indie musician to compete and to stand out from the masses. The business can be frustrating and not always supportive of the independent artist.
All you can be at all times is to be honest and true to yourself and to maintain the self-belief that provides confidence and resilience to continue and evolve.
What was the last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to was ‘You had your soul with you’ by The National
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Vinyl
What stop of the tour are you most excited about?
We are super excited about all the dates. We are playing at prestigious venues that have hosted some of our musical heroes like Bob Dylan, The National, Mercury Rev, Interpol, Sonic Youth, Arcade Fire.
