Austin’s apoplectic rockers Leopold and His Fiction return with the release of their raucous new single, It’s How I Feel, out now via Big Indie Records.
Combining classic and blues rock sensibilities, It’s How I Feel is brimming will attitude from the offset, feeling instantly reminiscent of the likes of Iggy Pop and Idles as a result. The single deals with self-realisation and taking a stand for something important to oneself.
Talking about the inventive video for the single, frontman and guitarist Daniel Leopold explains,
Self-realisation, the importance of finding comfort in ones own skin regardless of outside influence. The importance and availability to change. Taking your own opinions so seriously, and finding humour in the things that at times are endlessly frustrating and daunting. Puppets.”
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Leopold about the music, the challenges, the technology and more.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
What attracts me to making music in a particular genre is ever evolving. What ever got me into this kind of music is definitely different than what keeps me going. The option of being vulnerable and being expressive mostly. I think that say a lot about our type of music
What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?
Same as above. Started some one place early on and at some other point along the path realized I had been playing for many years and couldn’t ever imagine life without it. Making it public is for sure tied for the most masochistic thing about myself. Who lies without self-appointed pain. I can at least say mine is productive.
Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?
movies
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
We have a really cool song, and wanted really cool visuals to match. Thankfully for us, as a band we have the tools in house to facilitate these accomplishments so they wont stray to far from what we know feels right.
What was the last song you listened to?
Songs from our new album x4000 times. We are in the mixing stage.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
They’re All the same to me
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?
I cant talk to them at shows anymore due to the live music world shutting down. That has in the past been the best version of connectivity lost.
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more music?
Anything else you’d like to add before signing off?
Thank you. Look for a new album soon.
