In this interview spotlight, I chat with Lenny The Heart about the latest release, adapting during these unprecedented times, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?
I’ve lived most of my life in New Jersey, close to NYC and I lived in South Florida for some time.
Right now I live near Denver, Colorado where I have a super private and unbothered location to record.
How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?
What inspired me is that I’ve tried all the other routes, such as having a career at the post office and trying to maintain a romantic relationship. I found that I always gravitate and feel the need to record music. I’ve solidified that this is something I have to do only within the last 2 years. There’s just nothing else I’d rather do then record, learn and navigate the music biz.
How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?
Well I dropped my Debut EP “ROKKLENIN” and releasing that was definitely a self-introduction to the music industry. I put such care and love to recording that and having it portray the last four years of my life. It’s the first full length that is alternative for me, because before ROKKLENIN I released a Rap mixtape “Lenin” so its already sonically another realm. You can hear me totally embrace my rock voice in this debut and it’s something I’ve always envisioned for years that I knew I had and would practice from time to time. ROKKLENIN (released June 11, 2021) is sonically inspired by Tame Impala, Toro Y Moi, Mgmt and Empire of the Sun while my 11-song rap mixtape is inspired by Jay-z, Kanye West and Kid Cudi. They’re both pretty cinematic in there own respects and I’ve got several singles released aside from the two full lengths.
Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?
My only challenges end up being my own self. I tend to have phases, usually short where I lose my mind and DON’T record music but as long as I’m thinking of my artistry and my audio babies then I’m good. It requires great focus, I guess self talk to keep myself inspired enough to create.
What was the last song you listened to?
Beach House – PPP
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?
I like to listen with Vinyl. But I end up using MP3’s lots and CD’s with my current car.
Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?
Instagram for sure. I post often there, you can check out my stories and I’m active enough to tell you please keep up there!
