The Legendary Ten Seconds started off as the solo music project of Ian Churchward during the time when he was the lead guitar player of The Morrisons who were featured on John Peel’s radio one show back in 1987. In 2013, Lord Zarquon joined Ian’s music project and since then the line up has gradually expanded and various guest musician’s and vocalists have helped out in the recording studio.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with The Legendary Ten Seconds about the music, dream collabs, choosing a favorite song, and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Are you able to choose a favorite song of all time? Or would you label this an impossible task? If yes, what’s the song? If no, what’s your current Top 3?
This is a very difficult question. I guess that I haven’t got a favourite song of all time. I can’t even tell you my current top 3 as there are too many that I really like. Amongst my favourite songs these 3 immediately come to mind. ‘Right Said Fred’ by Bernard Cribbens, ‘Man of Mystery’ by the Shadows and ‘Pride of Man’ by Quicksilver Messenger Service.
What about this project makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release
For quite a few years I have wanted to release an album of my comedy songs. The songs are very self indulgent and some of them might only be funny to me or some of my friends. The one called ‘God Help Lord Zarquon’ is a parody of one of my historical songs called ‘God Aid the Marshal’.
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
I really like to be creative and writing and recording songs is a great hobby. Part of the motivation is knowing that somewhere someone will really like one of my new songs.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
I would get Hank Marvin and John Cippolina to play lots of guitar solos on lots of my songs. I love Hank Marvin’s lead guitar on the 1960’s instrumentals that he recorded with the Shadows. John Cippolina played lead guitar with Quicksilver Messenger Service and the sound of his guitar is really stunning and quite unique.
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
I can’t remember. I was listening to the songs on a memory stick in my car which are on shuffle. I was driving home back from the gym this morning. It’s got my favourite bands and songs on it. Some of my favourite bands are the Beatles, Devo, the Clash, the Yardbirds, Eddie Cochran, the Shadows the Doors, Quicksilver Messenger Service. My favourite albums are Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Their Satanic Majesties Request, Duty Now for the Future, the first Clash album and the first Quicksilver Messger Service album.

I appreciate Your time. Want to say or plug any other projects before we part ways?
My next album is called ‘Astounding Songs’. It will have a 1920s science fiction inspired song on it called ‘the Machine Man of Ardathia’. I’m a big fan of 1920’s and 1930s pulp science fiction magazines such as Astounding Stories
