In this interview spotlight, I chat with Krantz about their newest release, motivations, challenges and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I’m originally from the country side in Cumming, IA, but have lived in Nasvhille, TN for almost 10 years now.
Our music would probably be considered alternative rock, but I just like to say rock and roll in color. It’s catchy, melodic songs, with a psychedelic touch.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?
I decided I wanted to write songs and play music for a living after watching the Beatles Anthology in November of 1995. I pretty much just wanted to be the Beatles, but not being able to do that, I guess I’d just have to be the next Beatles. Writing, recording, and playing live are addictive to me, and keep us rolling on.
How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?
This EP is our first release as a band. The first self titled album was pretty much just me and some outside musicians. These are the first songs we worked on as a band, and came up with a sound of our own. We don’t really sound like anything that’s out right now, which I love. Our goal is to bring melodic pop rock back to the mainstream.
Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?
Well its definitely more difficult to make money from album or single sales considering most people just stream music these days. On the other hand, it’s a little easier to release music and get it out there for the people to hear. It’s just tough because it’s so easy to do, the market can be oversaturated. You just have to hope people dig your sound and the cream will rise.
Where can we follow you online and hear more music?
Our website is www.krantzmusic.com where you can get links to all our social media and all that. We’re also on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
